INSTRUCTORS

Craig Johnston, Chief Instructor Tactical Edge Glasgow started out in martial arts at the age of 13 when he started training in his mother art of ITF Tae Kwon Do.  He continued to train and compete at an international level up to and after he joined the army at the age of 19.

After 6 years in the army which included 2 operational tours of Northern Ireland and Iraq, Craig decided he needed a change of scenery. Upon leaving the army and after a spell of teaching Tae kwon Do full time Craig decided he needed some action and went back over to Iraq to do Close Protection and Convoy Protection work in Iraq. A majority of this work was done out of Baghdad International Airport (BIAP) and took him all over Iraq from Kurdistan in the North to Basra in the south and everything in between at a time when the insurgency in Iraq was at its greatest. Craig decided to settle back in Scotland after numerous rotations in Iraq but still kept his hand in security work by working various doors in Lanarkshire and Glasgow nightspots.

Craig has trained in various martial arts that include:

  • ITF Tae Kwon Do
  • Korean Kickboxing
  • Filipino Martial Arts
  • Kali
  • Silat
  • Krav Maga

Craig is now totally focused on Tactical Edge as he believes, from his experiences in various martial arts, Tactical Edge to be the ultimate in reality based self-defence. This belief in conjunction with his experiences in various combat situations means that in his classes Craig is not just teaching the theory of combat. He looks to condition his students to be mentally and physically ready for combat should they ever need to defend themselves or their family.
